Overview

Paul Raether has been a force in New York’s financial world since joining the global investment firm KKR in 1980. For 10 years, Raether was the head of the portfolio management committee, through which he oversaw three regional investment groups. Today, he serves as a member of the company’s private equity valuation committee, its global valuation committee, and its firm management committee. When it comes to collecting art, he’s known to keep a low profile—it’s rare for him to make an appearance at an auction or art fair.

Prior to joining KKR, Raether served as an officer in the United States Navy, and he started his professional career in the corporate finance department of Reynolds Securities. Previously, he was a vice president in the corporate finance department of the investment bank Blyth Eastman Dillon & Company. He obtained a B.A. from Trinity College and an M.B.A. from the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth College. Raether serves as a director or trustee for several educational and non-profit institutions. Currently, he sits on the boards of Apple Leisure Group and BrightView.

After 25 years of service, he retired from the Board of Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, where he had been chairman for over a decade. He also serves as a trustee of the board of overseers of the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College and the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Foundation. Raether is the President of the Institute for Sports Medicine Research in New York. In 2018 Raether donated $15 million to Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Business to establish scholarship funding.
